Hyderabad: Despite her poor financial background, Lingala Vastalya, a CEC student who secured 970 marks in the intermediate second year, remains unstoppable in dreaming big.
The girl wants to appear for the Union Public Service Commission's (UPSC) Civil Services Examination and aims to become an IPS officer.
While the girl's father is a daily wage labourer, her mother works as a sweeper on an outsourcing basis with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
"My father hardly earns Rs 1,100 a day, and my mother makes about Rs 14,000 a month. We are managing to survive on this amount," Vastalya told TOI. She said that her financial situation is one of the primary reasons for opting for a budget-friendly junior college and school, as it will be easy on her parents' pocket to get Vastalya and her sister educated.
A student at Vignan Junior College in Bandlaguda, the girl said that she decided to give UPSC a try as she is moved by problems in society. "If I become an IPS officer, I can at least help a few people and stand by them," she added.
The teenager said she was never interested in science stream or becoming an engineer or doctor. "That is the reason why I opted for CEC. This particular stream is also relevant to me in my pursuit of UPSC as it has subjects like political science. Even in graduation, I will opt for Bachelor of Arts," she said and added that her intermediate subjects will also provide a strong foundation for her further studies.
